Rheumatism (in)visible
In the Netherlands, more than 2 million people live with rheumatism. Rheumatism is a collective name for more than 100 different disorders of your joints, muscles, tendons and bones, not caused by an accident. Even though this disease is often invisible, it has a great impact on daily life. This is not always understood by others. To make rheumatism visible in society, Muzus designed the installation “Rheumatism Invisible. Commissioned by the What if Lab of the Dutch Design Foundation and ReumaNederland .
Invisible pain
The impact of rheumatoid arthritis
From the outside, it is difficult to understand what it is really like to live with rheumatoid arthritis. The constant battle that someone is waging with himself on the inside often remains invisible. In the installation Rheumatism (in)visible you step into the world of rheumatism and have the opportunity to experience for yourself what the impact of rheumatism can be. The installation helps people to reflect and imagine what it would be like to have rheumatism. Muzus developed this installation in collaboration with de Bende and Studio de Keuken.
Installation
A glass living world of rheumatoid arthritis
The installation could be found at the DDW in 2022. In the coming years, the “glass world of rheumatism” will travel around the Netherlands and be used at multiple events to let a wide audience experience the impact of rheumatism.
