Since the 1970s, the Beemsterhoek flat, one of the three recognizable ‘corners,’ has been part of Capelle aan den IJssel. This flat, which carries a 55+ label, is now in need of maintenance. But how do you actively involve the residents in these plans? Housing corporation Havensteder engaged us to conduct a residential experience survey to involve the residents.

A Change of Course

Maintenance of the Beemsterhoek

The Beemsterhoek is one of the three well-known ‘corners’ in Capelle aan den IJssel. Following maintenance on the other two flats, it is now Beemsterhoek’s turn. Thanks to its 55+ label, additional opportunities have been found for participation and actively involving residents in the planning process.

Conversations

A Look Behind the Front Door

Since its construction, the Beemsterhoek has been known as a beautiful place to live. We wanted to know if the residents felt the same. Therefore, we took a look behind the front door. Together with an engaged team from Havensteder, we held more than 150 candid conversations. We were warmly welcomed by over 70% of the residents and received tours from many proud inhabitants.

Even if I won a million, I'd stay here.
Seeking Opportunities

The Path to Improvement

This project provided invaluable insights into how the residents perceive their living environment. With these insights, we are developing a communication plan to be implemented throughout the rest of the project. This plan contains concrete steps to improve the living environment, tailored to the wishes expressed during our conversations.

What's Next

Participation on the Agenda

After this successful project, we are working with Havensteder to create a participation framework. This framework will serve as a guide for future projects, ensuring that participation takes an even more prominent role in all of Havensteder’s improvement projects.
