On a journey to help and support within the Hoeksche Waard
The search for appropriate help within the municipality is complex for many residents. For example, when applying for income support or WMO. Where do you start your search? And who do you talk to when you have a problem or need help? Commissioned by the Municipality of Hoeksche Waard, we conducted a needs survey among residents.
How do you enter the conversation?
On a journey through the Hoeksche Waard
Everyone seeks appropriate help in their own way. Some people solve their problems themselves. Others seek support in their immediate environment. And still others go to the municipality early on with their request for help.
To understand this difference, we used two different research methods. First, we talked to random people on the street to talk about their relationship with the municipality and its services. In addition, we conducted context mapping interviews with residents. This gave us insight into their personal experiences and needs. Through the two methods, we have a complete picture of the needs and wishes of the residents of the Hoeksche Waard.
Difference in approach
The Hoeksche Waard as a community
The Hoeksche Waard is characterized by rural villages and towns surrounded by vast green fields. People live relatively far from each other. Because of this, people often seek help within their own social circles. It can be difficult for residents to raise specific requests for help with (municipal) agencies because they are sometimes further away from the residents.
Awareness and recognition of our own need for help are crucial. But what makes someone have a need for help? And is that person themselves aware of it?

Service improvement
This project was commissioned by and in cooperation with the Municipality of Hoeksche Waard. The municipality uses the delivered materials to clarify the various needs of residents. The ultimate goal is to provide better service to residents.
