Mystery Module Legal Protection
It can be difficult for residents of the Netherlands to seek justice. Consider, for example, the earthquake cases in Groningen, the childcare allowance scandal and the cases surrounding companies such as Tata Steel and Chemours. Legal protection is a relatively new topic for many municipalities and organizations. That is why Divosa and Sociaal Werk Nederland have mapped out in a manual what works well and what is problematic with (social)legal information, advice and support. But how do you ensure that the information from the guide also reaches the professionals who can benefit from it?
In co-creation
Design process
To motivate municipalities and socio-legal organizations to read and use the guide, we delved into their environment; What is the role of legal protection in their daily work? What variables play a role? What are their needs? To then develop the Mystery Module in co-creation and through various design iterations and user tests.
To match the diversity of topics, working methods and needs, Muzus and Justice42 designed two variants of the Mystery Module: a physical and a digital one. The purpose of these modules is to inspire and excite. To engage in conversation about legal protection and how it can be improved in organizations, municipalities or regions. The modules consist of fictional cases, not worked out in detail, with hints based on real stories.
“We had a good conversation using the Mystery Module where we disagreed with each other. But it’s good that we were able to express this because then you can think in solutions afterwards.”

With documents as hints
Physical Mystery Module
The physical Mystery Module Legal Protection contains ten cases with hints based on real documents. You play a case with colleagues and/or parties from a local network. In a cooperative effort you try to unravel the described mysteries, receive hints and evaluate how local legal protection can be improved.

With audio clips
Digital Mystery Module
The digital Mystery Module Legal Protection contains six (different) cases with audio clips. The steps involved are the same as in the physical module, with the mystery of the digital module consisting of an audio clip.
By listening to the audio clips, you hear various experiences of residents and implementers. While unraveling the mysteries and reflecting on the cases, participants discover as a group how to strengthen socio-legal support for residents. If no colleagues are found to unravel the mysteries with, or if someone has little time, they can also choose to just listen to the experiences from the audio clips.
