Artificial Intelligence (AI). With that word, we often think of robots, futuristic future scenarios and complicated technology. It is a black box.
It’s scary or elusive. But did you know that AI is not so futuristic at all? In fact, it has long been woven into our daily lives. Many of us unknowingly use it almost daily. For an innovation that is rapidly permeating our society and systems, it is important that we make AI insightful and tangible.
The installation Everyday Intelligence
On the traveling AI parade
To make AI tangible, we built the installation “Everyday Intelligence,” commissioned by the Royal Library. An installation that teaches people how AI can be used now and in the future. This AI installation focuses on ordinary life. Using storytelling, see how AI is already present in our lives today. With short stories and stimulating questions, the user of the installation is introduced to AI in different living rooms.
The installation could be admired and used during the AI parade, which took place until early 2024. During the AI parade, visitors to libraries across the country could learn about artificial or artificial intelligence.
Applications of AI
An ethical issue
AI has many applications. Think of smart systems on construction sites that improve safety. Virtual assistants that get better and better because they listen to us. Navigation systems that optimize routes for more efficient travel. AI that selects social media posts based on a person’s interests. Education can also benefit from AI. With AI, a teacher can tailor a student’s learning trajectory to his or her individual needs.
These applications of AI also involve ethical issues. For example, is it really a good idea to deploy smart systems that make construction sites safer? How can you pre-program for situations where human life is at risk? What choices do you make then? Have you ever had to deal with fraud? How would you feel about AI protecting you in this? And what role will AI play in education?
